Finally being able to post something long after so long lol.

First and foremost, I would like to thank Advertlets & Sony for the invitation to the Sony NEX Launch that took place at Teeq Brasserie, Lot10. Sony had prepared the speeches, a performance, decent buffet, games, lucky draws & not forgetting the new series of NEX cameras for us to test.

The launch was featuring the new NEX series, which is the NEX-3 and the NEX-5. There isnt much difference between both cameras, except the latter has Full 1080HD recording(the NEX-3 only offers 720p Semi HD), and it also comes in a semi magnesium alloy body. Also, the NEX-5 has a deeper grip, giving users a nicer feel.

The NEX-3 & NEX-5 does not have a built in flash, but it has an adaptor on the top for users to purchase the add-on NEX flash. But sadly, the flash only fires directly at the object, not allowing the light to be bounced to the ceiling or whatnot, making the object look harsh at times.

The whole series of NEX + lenses line up.

It comes with the standard kit 18-55mm lens, or a 16mm pancake prime lens. The 18-55mm lens produces nice & sharp images, only slight visible distortion at 18mm since the NEX cameras are using the APS-C sensor which has a crop factor. On the other hand, the 16mm pancake lens provides a nice Depth-Of-Field (DoF) or also known as bokeh. At F2.8, it's pretty useful for low light conditions.

Current Sony Alpha users will also be able to mount their A-mount lenses onto the NEX series camera upon purchasing the adaptor. But unfortunately, the lenses will have to be focused manually, not auto.

Apart from those, what makes this spanking awesome camera stand out is it's 7 frame per second rate (7fps). It doesnt only shoot fast, but it shoots fast in low light conditions thanks to the high ISO level, which makes it a Double Kill!

Yes, you heard me. High ISO level. How high? 12800! And I kid you not, it takes pretty decent pictures at ISO 3200 although noise is visible. At ISO 800, almost no noise can be seen upon pixel peeping.

I didn't manage to try the video mode on the NEX, but according to Azrin:
"The video on the NEX-5 is quite noisy but still acceptable. The autofocus on the NEX is something not I expected. It hunts under the low lighting pretty often and sometimes it hunt for no reason when it is already lock into the subject. Lets hope Sony will do something about this in the upcoming firmware update. If not this will be one of the main reasons for me to get my hands on the NEX-5. "

Also, like the earlier series of Compact Cameras like the Sony CyberShot WX-1 etc, the NEX series also offers Sweep Panorama. Just swipe your camera from left to right(or whichever direction the camera allows you), and you'll hear the fine piece of art fire a machine gun-like sound and produce a decent panoramic image.

Pricing for the pre-order of the NEX-5 with 1 lens is at MYR $2,699,00. No pricing for the NEX-3 yet.
